You know the name, and his game. But did you know that Jackie Robinson was a civil rights icon? Did you know that he stood up against racism and injustice of all kinds, that he worked to create social and economic opportunities for African Americans, and that he believed all citizens should actively participate in our American democracy?
Join Young Masterminds Initiative on a virtual journey through his life—as a child in Pasadena, a college athlete and military man, the first African American in modern Major League Baseball, and an activist—to learn how he was a pioneer in the fight for equal civil rights.
We’ll look into Jackie Robinson’s core leadership traits and how he used them on and off the baseball field in this interactive program taking place at the new Jackie Robinson Museum in Downtown Manhattan.
Get inspired by Robinson’s legacy of courage, discipline, and integrity and set your own leadership goals to empower you to “step up to the plate” as pacesetters in your school and community.
We’ll explore Robinson’s legacy of fighting for equality, both on and off the baseball field. Through discussion, videos, and objects, participants will learn how Robinson showed great courage by standing up to unfairness and injustice throughout his life.
You will also learn about Robinson’s civil rights activism and his push to have our nation live up to its founding principles and then share how you will embrace his legacy of speaking out about issues that are important to you!
